Hi, my name is Chihiro and I work on a crossmedia project empowering media dialogue between makers and doc fans. It's called MoochMe and will be launched at IDFA 2009 at Cinema De Munt. The idea: Promote your own & take one home!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBOuwQfX2R0

Additionally I've directed and edited a couple of short docs for the Buddhist Broadcast here in Holland and wish to develop myself in this field in the coming years.

Favorite docs: The Planet & Surplus editted by Johan Soderberg! War on democracy, The Corporation and looking forward to seeing "Age of Stupid" & "Soundtrack for a revolution" at IDFA this year. I saw a little preview at the IDFA CLUB evening.

Looking forward to connecting, learning & sharing doc insights and news. Total newby here so have to snoop around a bit

Hello everyone (or Doug, as it were). I'm Evan, and I'm a filmmaker.

Currently working on my second documentary, my third feature length film, Winter in Kenmare. The story is about a small town in southwestern Ireland, and how it is preparing to face the difficult times ahead, both seasonally and globally.

I've plenty to do, but I'm glad to have found this site, as I hope to pick your brains for inspiration and practical ideas. And I hope to serve as a resource for those who need some advice as well.

Welcome, Chihiro. You and Hans should register as Members here, since you both easily qualify. We'll be having a large contingent of D-Word members attending IDFA next month, so will be nice to add some locals to our group.

Good to have you aboard, Evan, and good luck with the next film.

Hey Doug : ) Thanks for the invite, will do. Very excited about this years IDFA going by the previews I've seen and the many projects around it taking place. I'll be fully immersed in it working and checking out new work.

Looking forward to host people in Amsterdam.

Well, I'll have two films there. My own (The Kids Grow Up) and another personal doc that I'm producing (The Edge of Dreaming). So be on the lookout and look forward to seeing you there.

And, btw, what's Nebraska doing in the Netherlands?

Hi everyone, I joined d-word a short while ago and forgot to introduce myself! I'm an editor/producer (does anyone use "preditor" anymore?) with a journalism background and attempting the transition to documentary. I edited "Trail of Feathers: the Missile Dick Chicks Take on America", a feature doc which needs finishing funds before it will be distributed. http://trailoffeathers.blogspot.com/2009/04/blog-post.html

I'm also working on a short doc I filmed in Greece this summer about a dance performance with non-dancer immigrants who are dealing with racism and other problems. (shades of an earlier post from Austin TX)

And all this talk of IDFA makes me sad! I was living in Amsterdam for a while until late 2008, and I attended IDFA 3 years straight, first as a volunteer, then journalist, and finally participant ("Trail" was in Docs for Sale last year). But I won't be going this year. :(

Well, I just signed up to this site. Saw it mentioned in an article.
Um, a little about myself. I left Pittsburgh, PA. and moved to NYC about a month and a half ago to accomplish my goal of making a self funded feature film. I am documenting the entire process on my blog. I am looking to use Social Media and tools alike to market my journey as an independent filmmaker and in the end of it all, self distribute my film. Should be interesting!

In reply to Hans Bosscher's post on Tue 20 Oct 2009 :

Hi Hans, I wonder if you could guide me in the right direction when it comes to pitching my idea for a documentary about a Dutch sporting team (not professional) that is travelling to the Middle East to compete against local teams. I think the subject will have high interest in The Netherlands and even internationally.
I hope to hear from you.

Phil, I would consider volunteering at IDFA which is a good networking opportunity and chance to see a lot of great docs in exchange for your labor (it's a pretty big time commitment. I have heard that if you volunteer for IDFA's pitching forum you can get a front row seat into that process pitching for commissioning editors.

Currently I'm doing an independent doc on the creation of the first and only classical ballet company in Spain in over 20 years: Corella Ballet Castilla y Leon. After 5 trips to Spain I now hav 80hrs of HD footage, and need to finish the film SOON! But like everyone these days, no job, income, or funding (beyond "moi") is making it hard. The trailer in online, (doing well) but not much else yet.

Hello D-Worders! Good to be amongst doc film comrades.

If you're into synthesizers, all things sound and the post millennial global music underground, you might like our new film coming out in 2010.

I'm interested in guerrilla promo/publicity/marketing and would very much appreciate any wisdom...or just some good ideas :) We were contacted by ppl from Levi's and Diesel and honestly I'm looking for some sage advice. It seems our films featured artists and labels are of interest to these types of "youth brand" companies, many of the artists music has been featured in films,tv shows, commercials etc.

We just showed a sneak preview at the Anthology Film Archives in NYC during the CMJ and got a buzz started. it'd be nice to know what to say to these corporate folks and the appropriate way to speak to or approach these kinds of ppl/co's. srry for the long intro. Thanks

you can watch the trailer here

Hi everyone! I’m Erin, an amateur documentary filmmaker based in Boston. I recently moved from New York where I was interning at Jigsaw Productions and Four Corners Media. I run my own freelance video production and post-production service, which has proved quite successful thus far, but am hoping to transition from the scattered nature of freelance projects to a career in feature-length documentary. I love the storytelling process and believe that documentary offers a unique outlet for knowledge that makes it one of the most important tools for education in the 21st century. I look forward to learning from and participating in the D-Word community.
