CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The KAREN SCHMEER FILM EDITING FELLOWSHIP deadline is fast approaching: December 15, 2010.
The fellowship was created to honor the memory of gifted editor, Karen Schmeer ("Fast, Cheap, and Out of Control," "Fog of War," "Sergio"), who was killed in a car accident on January 29, 2010.
Karen always talked about how editors needed more recognition and support; the year-long fellowship will support the talents of an emerging editor while offering a tribute to Karen’s artistic achievements and her giving spirit.
The experience will include: a mentorship with an ACE (American Cinema Editors) editor, a class at the Manhattan Edit Workshop, festival passes to ACE EditFest in LA and NY, a SXSW Film Festival Badge, an Independent Film Festival of Boston Festival Chrome Pass, a gift certificate to Powell's books (Karen's favorite), a year-long membership to NY's DocuClub, and more.
Fellowship details, the application, and a bio of Karen are all here:
We're also making in the middle of a big fundraising push to ensure the longevity of the fellowship. A matching $25,000 grant is doubling all donations made before December 31, 2010 (up to $25,000). All donations are tax-deductible. We've already raised $14,000... we've got $11,000 to go! Can you help us reach our financial goal? We thank you. And emerging editors thank you.
We're on Facebook:
If you know someone who would benefit from the fellowship, please encourage them to apply. Thanks for helping us spread the word!
