Hi everyone – Hope you are all well.

I am a young documentary film maker from Ireland, I have been making a Hip-Hop documentary 'Peace, Love, Unity and Havin' Fun' for the last 3 / 4 years. I feel it has international appeal and would be of interest to a lot of young people.

Discover and learn about cross-community relationships, Northern Ireland and the global phenomenon we call Hip-Hop.... (

Its my first film so I would be grateful for some advice on what I should do next now that its nearly finished.

Chris in Belfast – Welcome. Have you said hello in Introduce Yourself yet?

Hi Ben, just introduced myself there, do you think I should put a post up in the mentor section? Seems to be plenty of goods advice.

Ben Kempas

If you have a precise question, yes, the Mentoring Room is all yours. Just try not to repeat the same general posting as you did before.

This topic here, Classifieds, basically is for ads like "I need..." or "I offer..." or "I invite...".

Hi guys,

I work for film training organisation Initialize Films and I just wanted to let you know about two new (London-based) doumentary courses we're running in the new year:

Insider's Guide to... Making an Award-Winning Documentary:

This one-day guide is for documentary filmmakers and producers who want to understand how to develop, package, finance, direct and distribute an award-winning documentary.

The course will be led by filmmaker and producer Geoffrey Smith, who recently made THE ENGLISH SURGEON, which has been shown in over 40 international festivals, and has a theatrical release scheduled in the US, Spain and Poland. Geoffrey has also made several award-winning documentaries for the BBC and C4.

The course will take place on 31 Jan 2009 in Bloomsbury, London, and costs £85 + VAT. To register please see
Project Development Course – Narrative Strategies for Feature Docs

Initialize Films Project Development Course on Narrative Strategies for Feature Docs gives feedback for 6 documentary filmmakers / producers on their projects over the course of 8 evening sessions starting on Thursday 15 January 2009.

During the course we will analyse popular narrative strategies for successful feature documentaries and workshop these strategies with each participant’s project.

Initialize has a strong track record as story / script consultants, helping writers, filmmakers and producers refine their projects and assisting them in getting development and production finance (including the BBC’s Storyville).

The course costs £195 (+ VAT). All sessions take place from 19.00 to 21.00 in Holborn, London. To book please see

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
