DocuClub, a New York-based film series of works-in-progress documentaries, is seeking submissions for 2008.
The format of DocuClub is to screen a rough cut and to have a moderator facilitate a discussion of the film between filmmaker and audience. Past films that have been screened at DocuClub include "Born Into Brothels," "The Boys of Baraka," and "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster."
DocuClub is accepting entries that fit the following criteria:
- They are in the rough cut stage and thus ready to be screened
- They are no longer than 120 minutes and no less than 45 minutes
- They have specific challenges that you wish to workshop

The Utopia Film Festival showcases short and feature-length works which entertain and enlighten audiences of all ages. Fiction, Documentaries, Animations, Music Videos, and Experimental Films are all welcome. This year's festival will take place from October 24-26, 2008 in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The Utopia Film Festival is an annual cinematic event, now in its fourth year. It reflects the utopian ideals of Greenbelt, Maryland – one of America's first planned communities. Located between the urban centers of Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland, Greenbelt was designed and built under the Roosevelt Administration's New Deal Federal Works Program in the 1930s. It remains a vibrant community and its historic city center (where many of the festival events take place) has been designated a national historic district.
While we encourage all submissions, these are special strands which we have planned for 2008:
UTOPIAN VISIONS: Films which address themes of community building, promoting diversity, bettering social and economic conditions, or preserving the environment.

Subtitling job for a German speaker:
Someone wants to have his late father's video Holocaust testimony subtitled from German to English. The interview has already been transcribed and translated. Length is 1:43.
Having just worked with subtitles myself, I know that it works better when the subtitler speaks the native language. That's why I'm passing up this opportunity.

Docs In Progress is seeking submissions for our summer and fall works-in-progress screenings.
We screen documentary rough cuts six times a year in Washington DC and once a year in Baltimore, MD. These screenings are attended by the general public and include a moderated feedback session with the audience. There is currently no fee to submit, although all accepted filmmakers must be willing to attend the screening at their own travel expense. Screenings are usually held on a weeknight.
For our next program in Washington DC (Tuesday, June 10), we are accepting documentary rough cuts which are shorter than 30 minutes. For our July, September, October, and November programs, we will accept submissions of any length. While we accept submissions on a rolling basis, to be considered for the June program, we will need to receive your submission by April 30.

We are looking for an executive producer for the documentary project The Navajo Riders.
The Navajo Riders covers the Navajo Nation Council Horseback Ride in which council delegates ride to different parts of the Navajo Nation to learn about the needs of the Navajo people at townhall meetings, recreating an old tradition. The seven day ride begins at the base of Navajo Mountain, goes through the Monument Valley, and ends in Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation. We follow the NaaTsis Aan Riders throughout this exciting 510-mile journey through three states passing the Navajo volcanic fields, a meteor crash site, and a glacial lake. Along the way suffering temperatures above a hundred degrees, we encounter wild mustangs and ancient Anazasi structures built thousands of years ago. During this week-long event we explore the unique traditions of the Navajo culture.
The Navajo Riders will be submitted to the Native American category for the Sundance Film Festival. Navajo producer, director, and writers are attached to the documentary project.

UnionDocs is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit documentary arts collaborative and presentation space. Currently, our primary program is The Documentary Bodega Series, featuring new and challenging documentary film and audio works every Sunday evening in our Brooklyn screening room. The series is produced by the Resident Curators of UDR, the UnionDocs Residency Program for Documentary & Media Studies. We also produce a podcast and blog, featuring short media pieces inspired by discussions at the Documentary Bodega and beyond.
UnionDocs is looking for a new resident starting in June. The UnionDocs Residency (UDR) combines an excellent and cooperative living situation with an opportunity for immersion in independent cultural production. Six carefully selected people live together in a historic building at a great location and collaborate to produce a festival-quality documentary series in the first floor screening room.
322 Union is a great place to live. It has a lot of shared resources and a lot of opportunity for fun while also having adequate privacy and a comfort (not always found in NYC communal living). There are three floors, a basement, a grassy backyard with a grill and deck, a big second story porch, and skyline views from the roof. The location is close to excellent transportation making most cool spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn within a short subway ride.
The first floor is a commercial space run by the program director. It includes the screening room, 2 studios for working media artists, the UnionDocs directorâ€™s office, and access to the basement which has been sound-proofed for music rehearsal and audio recording. Resources on the first floor are readily available to UD Residents outside of the schedule for the Documentary Bodega Series.

Bedrooms can be locked, but common spaces are shared by the six residents. The common spaces are furnished, so residents need only bring the contents of their bedroom. The building has high-speed internet, a VOIP phone, and washer and dryer.

Distribution Executive Bios:
Allen Chou is President of Sales and Acquisitions at Passion River Films, a NJ based company that distributes over 300 documentaries, arthouse films, and special interest titles for the US home video and international sales market since 1998. Many of his titles have landed retail shelf space in stores such as: Walmart, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster Video, Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery, Best Buy, and many moreâ€¦ In 2005, Allen established a distribution partnership with Netflix, resulting in the release of over 180 titles on their site; as well as other retail outlets. Internationally, he has attended Film and TV markets such as the American Film Market in Santa Monica, CA and Cannes Film Market in Cannes, France, where he marketed and licensed films and documentaries worldwide to broadcasters and foreign home video distributors. Recently he started the College Speaker and Public Performance Program; as well as the New Digital Sales and Electronic Delivery division. Allen Chou received his BA in Film from the University Of Maryland, and also attended NYU.
Josh Levin is a film marketing and distribution executive who has brought more than 30 feature films to the US marketplace, including top award winners from Cannes, Sundance, Venice, Berlin, Toronto and Tribeca. As Chief Marketing Officer for Film Movement, Josh learned how to get hard-to-place films in front of the eyes of filmgoers across the country â€œby any means necessary,â€ from theatrical premieres in New York City to library screenings in Butte, Montana â€” while also learning how to get filmmakers paid for their art. Working with films with tiny or non-existent marketing budgets is Joshâ€™s forte. Since starting Gallant Films in 2007, Josh has also begun working in production financing and consulting. Josh got his MBA from Columbia Business School, and his BA from the University of Michigan.

The young man moves from his village in northern India to Mumbai to achieve his dreams of stardom, only to find out that although he is talented, he lacks what is known as "personality," a euphemism for being light-skinned and confident in a newly globalized India.
