Hey all--

Recently set up this portal to sell iPOD / portable-ready MP4s of my own titles BOOKWARS, SUSAN HERO, and others, and am now offering the platform to other filmmakers who may want to sell MP4 versions (non- DRM) of their work.

No guarantees re: revenue, but probably worth a try, especially for older releases that aren't well repped in the digital space.

  • I'm located in Asia –> Servers located in Florida
  • Buyers get secure link to download title to their desktop

(((Contact me at camerado@camerado.com to discuss)))

Hi all, if any of you know a qualified individual who would be interested and available in helping out with film festival submissions and marketing for this feature documentary, please let me know!!!

ABOUT THE FILM
http://www.myspace.com/rappingwithshakespeare
A feature doc on five students at Crenshaw High School who express teen life in South Central LA through a mix of hip-hop and Shakesearean literature. Directed by Emmy Award-winner Michael King.

WHO YOU WILL BE WORKING WITH
The producer/exec producer who has plenty of contacts and experience in the TV, music, and film business. You might work with me a bit if I stay with the project and/or if I end up training you.

PRIMARY DUTIES: KEEP UP WITH FILM FEST DEADLINES
Manage and update Withoutabox.com acct
Help maintain calendar of film fest dates, deadlines, fees
Submit/send films and fees to film festivals; meet deadlines
Communicate with film festivals to request deadline/submission fee waivers

This is the top priority but in the event that the film gets accepted to a fest, you'll need to help out with publicity work ranging from updating our Myspace and website to making calls to radio stations. Please contact me if you're interested or have more questions. We are looking for someone who is flexible and follows through with tasks. Help out with as much as you can, and whatever you can't do, let us know and we can work something out. I started with the internship not long ago and it has been a great experience. My availability has changed so I am looking for an assistant/replacement. Thanks!!

FREE Screening: Cynthia Wade's FREEHELD, The New School, April 11

The New School presents
The Sixth Annual Dorothy H. Hirshon Film Festival – Vision and Risk: The Films of Cynthia Wade
Date: April 11, 2008
7:00 p.m., with panel discussion and reception to follow
Tishman Auditorium
66 W. 12th Street, New York City
Free and Open to the Public

Screening and Discussion: FREEHELD, winner of the 2008 Academy Award for Documentary Short Subject
FREEHELD chronicles Detective Lieutenant Laurel Hester’s struggle to transfer her pension to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree. With less than six months to live, Laurel refuses to back down when the elected officials of Ocean County, New Jersey, deny her request to leave her pension to her partner, an option granted only to heterosexual married couples. FREEHELD captures the media frenzy and passionate advocacy campaign spurred by Laurel’s plight; it also tells the quieter, personal story of the deep love between Laurel and Stacie as they face the reality of losing each other, creating a powerful, nuanced study of a grassroots fight for justice.

YIKES! MIAMI-AREA DP / CAMERA OP NEEDED IN A HURRY!

Just received an opportunity for a talking-head intvw with a movie star that's very pertinent to my doc. It's in Miami Beach, this week, probably during business hours. Only about one hour of actual intvw, but then set-up and breakdown on top of the one hour.

If anyone fits this bill, is a DP with professional credits and his/her own camera (Sony DVCam preferred) and light kit, drop me a line at:

cultmovies [at] hotmail [dot] com

This is for an in-production feature-length doc that already has some interest from cable and has other movie-star intvws in the can.

The Utopia Film Festival, a community festival for which I have been serving as Program Director, is now accepting submissions. Would love to see any D-Worder submissions. No premiere requirements and we do accept films made within the past two years. Here's our blurb...

The Utopia Film Festival showcases short and feature-length works which entertain and enlighten audiences of all ages. Fiction, Documentaries, Animations, Music Videos, and Experimental Films are all welcome. This year's festival will take place from October 24-26, 2008 in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The Utopia Film Festival is an annual cinematic event, now in its fourth year. It reflects the utopian ideals of Greenbelt, Maryland – one of America's first planned communities. Located between the urban centers of Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland, Greenbelt was designed and built under the Roosevelt Administration's New Deal Federal Works Program in the 1930s. It remains a vibrant community and its historic city center (where many of the festival events take place) has been designated a national historic district.

While we encourage all submissions, these are special strands which we have planned for 2008:

UTOPIAN VISIONS: Films which address themes of community building, promoting diversity, bettering social and economic conditions, or preserving the environment.

KID VIDS: Family-friendly animated or live-action works. Films produced by children and teenagers are especially encouraged.

HALLOWEEN SCREEN: Since our festival coincides with the week of Halloween, we welcome submissions of serious or spoofy horror films appropriate for the season.

Submit now to take advantage of the early bird discount rate on submission fees.

Early-Bird Deadline: April 25, 2008
Regular Deadline: June 13, 2008
Late Deadline: July 1, 2008

Looking for a cinematographer in Los Angeles to film an interview for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Prior interviews were shot on a Sony HVR VIU and we want to keep a consistent look. Would like to use natural light as much as possible, but anticipate using lights as well. I just wanted to let you know about an opportunity for anyone who's
interested to create a financed short that could broadcast nationally
on PBS. The WGBH Lab has joined with P.O.V. and is seeking compelling
pitches for video shorts about the 2008 Election. If selected,
producers receive $2,000 production funds, get feedback from industry
professionals, and their work may be broadcast nationally. The
deadline for pitches is May 2nd, 2008.

If you'd like to submit a pitch or want more information, visit:

I don't know if this is the right section, but for all that are interested:

My name is Christian Kragh and I'm a freelance Flash designer/developer. I create full Flash websites and am interested in creating websites for films as well. In the past, I've mostly designed sites for portfolios, galleries, artists and photographers, that type of thing. But I want to expand and think film sites can be really great. My website is at http://www.christiankragh.com – please contact me if you are interested at ckragh – at – gmail – dot – com – I don't think I'll be checking d-word so often.

Thanks,
Christian

Hello! Does anyone know of any New York-based documentary film makers with internship opportunities? I am looking for some hands-on experience before i attend the Maine Media Workshop's four-week documentary film making course this summer (August). Thank you for any advice or suggestions you can share with me: imakedocumentaries@gmail.com. Best regards, Cynthia

Subtitling job for a German speaker:

Someone wants to have his late father's video Holocaust testimony subtitled from German to English. The interview has already been transcribed and translated. Length is 1:43.

Having just worked with subtitles myself, I know that it works better when the subtitler speaks the native language. That's why I'm passing up this opportunity.

It would be easiest if the editor lives in the States, since the tapes are in NY, but an accomodation could probably be reached if this is not the case.

Please contact me if interested.

I am looking for a group to view my film. I am just finishing editing it. (I think, LOL) I did a private viewing a couple of weeks ago and made some adjustments and now I would like to screen it again. If anyone is in the Providence/Boston/Conn area and would provide a place to screen it and up to 10 or 15 people to critique it I would be greatly in your debt. (Basically I can go anyplace driving distance, any day, as long as I can make it back to work the next morning)
I am not offering money, just an opportunity to watch a film and network. Just a little background, This is my first film and I did not get any grants.
For more background on the film please go to my website at

Hi there! I'm about to graduate from college (University of Virginia) and am looking for either an editing internship or, better yet, assistant editorship. I've sent out 30-odd emails, queries, demos, and resumes, but I imagine I have another 100-odd to go. Any recommendations for post houses to get my start in editing?

My demo is online at youtube.com/user/xtinatracik
email is christina.tkacik@gmail.com

ANY suggestions are welcome! (Hey, I hear Starbucks has pretty good benefits these days, too...)
