DocuClub in November!

Our November DocuClub will take place on Wednesday, November 17, 7 p.m., at DCTV, located at 87 Lafayette Street (at Walker; take N/R/Q/6 trains to Canal).

We will screen a rough cut of When I Walk by Jason DaSilva. After working as a filmmaker for ten years, filmmaker DaSilva puts his experience with having progressive Multiple Sclerosis to the screen. His journey paints a picture of a complex disease amidst complex circumstances. The film weaves in interviews, explanations, and findings on MS within a jigsaw puzzle of incidents. Director/Producer Jason DaSilva’s first collaborative feature film was CUBA DREAMS, shot in Havana in 1999, and screened at the Latin American Film Festival in Cuba later that year. His next film, OLIVIA'S PUZZLE, screened at more than 30 festivals including Sundance, received an Oscar qualification in the summer of 2003, and was broadcasted on HBO and PBS in 2004. His third film, LEST WE FORGET, premiered at the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam in 2004. His most recent short TWINS OF MANKALA premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2006 and aired on PBS in 2006. DaSilva returned to his passion of interdisciplinary art, showing his time-based artwork at galleries internationally and at the Whitney Biennial 2006. His last documentary, FROM THE MOUTHPIECE ON BACK premiered at AFI/Dallas in 2008. DaSilva is a recipient of the Project: Involve Filmmaker Fellowship award from IFP/New York.

Our moderator will be Sarie Horowitz, Program Manager for the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar. She has worked in the field of documentary film for more than a decade and began her career in film at the Independent Feature Project. She is the Director/Producer of the award-winning short THE SPECIAL MUSIC SCHOOL OF AMERICA and the Producer of the PBS short ORCHESTRA 2001. She produced the feature-length documentary THREE OF HEARTS: A POSTMODERN FAMILY that had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and aired on Bravo and the Sundance Channel. Horowitz is also the Producer of FALLOUT, SUPPLY & DEMAND, ENGINE OF CHANGE and is a Co-Producer on the feature documentary WELCOME TO SHELBYVILLE which premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival and will air on Independent Lens in the Spring of 2011 .She worked as a Director/Producer for HealthiNation, producing short pieces on various health topics for Comcast On Demand. While working in documentary production, Sarie also served for five years as Program Director of DocuClub, a program that facilitates filmmakers in the making of their documentaries.

I've been helping out an education school (ie teacher training program) that uses video extensively in its curriculum. We film in great schools with great teachers, then cut that material up to demonstrate discrete techniques of teaching, both content oriented and classroom management oriented.

We're looking to bring on some extra help with the video work, including a ton of assistant editing work and some editing and shooting work. NOMAD Films is excited to announce our partnership with the “Big Screen Project” to screen a collection of films at the public plaza in February 2011.

Through this partnership, NOMAD Films will curate an exhibition of short films directed and/or produced by independent filmmakers utilizing innovative and explorative ways of filmmaking. The films can be narrative or documentary, and should evoke feelings of warmth for its shivering February audience. Projects will be accepted November 1, 2010, through January 15, 2011. Filmmakers whose projects are selected will be notified at the end of January. Date for February screening to be announced.

For films to be considered for The NOMAD Project, filmmaker(s) must:

a. Incorporate the use of new technology and/or exhibit an ability to creatively use existing or outdated media.
b. Complete production with a minimal exchange of cash, specifically, less than 50% of overall budget; filmmakers are encouraged to exchange or barter production resources, as well as cast/crew.
c. Evoke, in your film, feelings of warmth – towards others, towards yourself, towards society and the environment (literal or otherwise).
d. NO nudity, profanity or displays of or verbiage pertaining to violent acts.

From November 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010, filmmakers must submit TWO OF EACH of the following to EACH of the below addresses (for a total of FOUR copies submitted to NOMAD Films): project application, signed and dated Rules and Terms of Agreement, DVD (Region 2, PAL system for FRANCE; NTSC Region 0 for USA). The film can be shot on whatever format thinkable; filmmakers are encouraged to be innovative and experimental. If you’ve figured out how to make a powerful film on your photocopier, we want to see it. Selected films will be screened February 2011 at the Big Screen Project, in New York, New York USA.

FILMMAKER SERVICES INTERNSHIP at Arts Engine (DocuClub and fiscal sponsorship)

DocuClub Program is a film screening series of documentaries in rough-cut stage. Each month, a filmmaker presents her film as a works-in-progress. Afterwards, a moderator facilitates a discussion between filmmaker and audience. Constructive feedback from these sessions informs the finished film. Past films that have been screened at DocuClub include BORN INTO BROTHELS, PRODIGAL SONS, and DISTURBING THE UNIVERSE: WILLIAM KUNSTLER.

Responsibilities include:
- Participate in the selection process for DocuClub screenings by soliciting and previewing submissions
- Provide written feedback to DocuClub submissions
- Assist with newsletter, writing, copy editing
- Assist with set up and break down after DocuClub screening
- Keep track of RSVPs to screening
- Research potential partnerships/sponsors for sessions

Fiscal Sponsorship Program is a fundraising tool that serves as an alternative to a filmmaker establishing her own 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It allows a filmmaker’s non-commercial project to apply for funding from organizations requiring that the recipient have nonprofit status. As fiscal sponsor, Arts Engine, Inc., serves as the nonprofit tax-exempt umbrella organization that accepts and administers contributions made to a filmmaker’s project.

Arts Engine has served as fiscal sponsor for such outstanding films as THE TRIALS OF DARRYL HUNT by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg, PRAY THE DEVIL BACK TO HELL by Gini Reticker, FAVELA RISING by Matt Mochary and Jeff Zimbalist, and GOD GREW TIRED OF US: THE STORY OF THE LOST BOYS OF SUDAN by Christopher Dillon Quinn and Tommy Walker.

Responsibilities include:
- Research grant/funding resources for filmmakers

Interaction Design intern for music Documentary Film/e-Book project (NYC)

Indie, feature-length documentary in progress seeks an exceptional, part-time (1 to 2 days a week) Interaction Designer (or a team of 2 designers) to join our team in creating a new kind of historical/contemporary music documentary. Digital storytelling across screens and platforms is coming to the documentary medium – so help us be part of the Doc. 2.0 evolution!

The ideal candidate will have a background in design and usability, and a deep appreciation for the value of building indie brands that resonate and attract an audience for all the right reasons. You are not only a phenomenal multi-tasker, but someone who simply gets sh!t done. You are steeped and versed not only in social media tools, but in ways to connect and tell a narrative through them. You love docs, but wish the stories they told existed in more tangible, interactive ways.

Working with the producer, director and archivist of this film, you’ll come up with ways to grow and extend our existing process (we’ve got 5000+ fans on Facebook, have nearly 3 years of more than 40 interviews shot in 17 cities across the US, and are starting an 12 to 15 piece orchestra for filmed performances in Brooklyn in 2011). You will help us share and market the film as we continue to grow our audience – both now and after the film’s release.

• You will lead the co-development of a 2 to 3 year roadmap for social media and off-line audience growth and engagement (prior to and after the film’s festival debut).
• You will help select and lead a team (editor and designer) in the co-development of an Apple iBook – destined for display on the iPad, complete with original poetry, lyrics, illustrations, photos and embedded video clips (using the ePUB format & HTML5). This project will be filmed for inclusion in the documentary.

Prerequisites (you basically breathe software, not intimidated by anything, right?):
• A background in interaction design, UX/UI work, and working on interactive media teams – yep.
• Experience with Adobe inDesign CS5, Photoshop/AfterEffects, DVD authoring and workflow – check.
• WordPress development and project management experience – yes!
• Experience with video production and editing (FinalCut, iMovie) – {very helpful}.
• A background in traditional filmmaking less important than dexterity in new media production, collaboration and development for web 2.0, DVD, and television projects.

Why is this an internship?: We know what needs to get done, but we are also on the hunt for finishing-funds for our film, which means that even though we will start our mighty "crowdsourced" funding effort in Jan. 2011 (via the usual suspects of Kickstarter or IndieGoGo) – we are not able to pay anyone yet. We do have 1 intern working on the team now for college credit, and hope that this project will be just intriguing enough to find the right person to help.

3rd Session – The Market Opens: end of October 2011 (TBC)

Ex Oriente Film is a year-long international workshop that supports the development and funding of creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. At three workshops that take place in the course of one year, directors and producers develop their projects and funding strategies and benefit from the assistance and valuable advice provided by established European producers, directors, AV experts and commissioning editors. An important aspect of Ex Oriente Film are the year-round online sessions and consultations led by the lead and guest tutors of the workshop. The Ex Oriente Film training programme is completed with the co-production meeting East European Forum that gives documentary filmmakers a chance to pitch their project and secure funding from West European and North American broadcasters. The three residential workshops and the East European Forum pitching are supplemented by our Follow-up Support that keeps track of the projects until their completion.

Out of all submitted projects, 14 projects – 28 participants in director/producer teams – are selected to attend the workshop. Preference is given to filmmakers based in Central and Eastern Europe, however, we may pick up to 4 projects from outside the region.

Participation Fee
The participation fee is EUR 1,500 per selected project (includes all accommodation, coffee breaks and lunches during the three workshops for 1-2 pers.). The payment deadline is Monday, February 25, 2011.

Participants from Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia may apply for a scholarship to cover part of the accommodation and participation fees. Applicants must prove that there is no possibility of scholarship in their own country and that the project is not supported by any development funding.

Conditions of Participation
Participants must be proficient in English. All workshop sessions must be attended by both the producer and the director.

1st Session: Find Your Way
Location: Czech Republic
Probable dates: March 7 – 12, 2011 (TBC)
The first session of the workshop deals with inspiration, focusing on the story and the protagonists, analyzing international aspects of the projects, and drafting the basic concept for production and funding. Tutors confirmed for the session include Marijke Rawie (expert consultant, workshop moderator, The Netherlands); Mikael Opstrup (lead production tutor, producer and consultant, Denmark); Jean-Pierre Rehm (1st session guest tutor, FIDMarseille director, France); Erez Laufer (editor, Israel); Martin Kollár (photographer and cinematographer, Slovakia); Miroslav Janek (director, cinematographer, Czech Republic), and others. Apart from individual meetings, group sessions and film development lectures on storytelling and funding, we are planning a session by Bruno Felix of Submarine, or Andy Whittaker’s (Dogwoof, UK) session about the sales potential of documentaries, about finding new ways to fund, create and distribute documentaries, and an overview session on visual styles in documentary film by Martin Kollár. Erez Laufer will have a session on “Dramaturgical Rules in Documentary Film” as well as dramaturgical consultations with all participants.

2nd Session: Production Development
Location: Bratislava, Slovakia
Dates: mid-June 2011 (TBC)
The second session deals with financing, budgeting according to EU standards, legal aspects of co-production, strategies for selecting commissioning editors and an appropriate television format, as well as a deeper creative development of the film projects. The second session includes the following key subjects: “A Day of Budgeting”, “A Day of Legal Aspects” ,“A Day of Financial Tour”. In 2011 we plan to have the second session in Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava. We think that Bratislava has the ideal geographical position to attract Austrian and Slovak filmmakers and film professionals since Vienna is only 40 km away.

3rd Session: The Market Opens
Location: Jihlava, Czech Republic
Dates: End of October 2011 (TBC)
In October 2011, the workshop will be completed with the East European Forum pitching sessions that will boost funding efforts of the attending projects. The third session deals mainly with practical skills that are required for the presentation of the project and pitching. However, its main theoretical themes are distribution plan and sales, post-pitching negotiation techniques for documentaries, as well as communication strategies to get European broadcasters involved in the project. The theoretical parts of this workshop discuss specific examples of international co-production using case studies presented by commissioning editors, producers and distributors. The session is concluded with the East European Pitching Forum and Feedback Round Tables with selected tutors.

DocuClub in December!

Our December DocuClub will take place on Wednesday, December 8, 7 p.m., at DCTV, located at 87 Lafayette Street (at Walker; take N/R/Q/6 trains to Canal).

We will screen a rough cut of (A)SEXUAL by Angela Tucker. The documentary follows the growth of a community that experiences no sexual attraction. In 2000, David Jay came out to his parents. He was asexual and was fine with it. And he was not alone. Studies show that 1% of the population is asexual. But in a society obsessed with sex, how do you deal with life as an outsider? Combining intimate interviews, verite footage, and animation with fearless humor and pop culture imagery, David and our four other characters grapple with this universal question and the outcomes might surprise you.

A Brooklyn based filmmaker and writer, Director Angela Tucker was the Director of Production at Big Mouth Films, a social issue documentary production company that is a project of Arts Engine, Inc. There, she produced PUSHING THE ELEPHANT (IDFA, Independent Lens), the Emmy-nominated documentary, DEADLINE (NBC), ELECTION DAY (PBS’ POV) and BEYOND THE STEPS: ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER (Great Performances). She directed two pieces for The National Black Programming Consortium and ITVS’ Initiative, The Masculinity Project, entitled INVISIBLE MEN and a fiction short film, THE BIRTHDAY GIRL. She directs and produces educational videos for non-profit organizations such as Johns Hopkins Medical Center’s Project Restore and GLSEN, in addition to producing spots for Nickelodeon. In 2010, Tucker was a Yaddo fellow.

Having worked in various capacities at Big Mouth since 2003, producer Beth Davenport brings over eight years of production and outreach experience in television, commercials and award-winning documentaries for P.O.V., Sundance Channel, BBC and Arte France as well as directing advocacy videos and short films. Film credits include: the Emmy-nominated film DEADLINE, Thomas Balmes’ WRONGFUL DEATH and ELECTION DAY. Beth is currently a producer at Arts Engine, Inc./Big Mouth Films and is producing THE DISHES, directed by Katy Chevigny and directing PUSHING THE ELEPHANT, a feature-length documentary (Human Rights Watch Film Festival, IDFA).

Producer Katy Chevigny, Arts Engine’s co-founder and senior director, is a documentary filmmaker, entrepreneur and nonprofit manager. For fifteen years, Chevigny has advocated for a diverse media culture, one that illuminates important stories and amplifies voices not often heard in the mainstream media. Chevigny founded Arts Engine and its predecessor Big Mouth Productions. As a film director, Chevigny most recently directed the film ELECTION DAY, which premiered at the South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in March 2007 and was broadcast on public television by POV in 2008. Chevigny also co-directed Deadline (2004), an Emmy-nominated documentary about the dramatic events that took place in Illinois in 2003 concerning capital punishment. The film aired on NBC in July 2004 and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, won a CINE Golden Eagle Grand Jury Award and the Thurgood Marshall Journalism Award. Chevigny has produced many award-winning documentaries at Arts Engine, including: ARCTIC SON, JOURNEY TO THE WEST: CHINESE MEDICINE TODAY, NUYORICAN DREAM, INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY AND OUTSIDE LOOKING IN: TRANSRACIAL ADOPTION IN AMERICA.

Co-Producer Jolene Pinder has worked at Arts Engine for the past three years. Prior to becoming the Festival and Outreach Director, she was an Associate Producer at Big Mouth Films (the production arm of Arts Engine). She is currently a co-producer on the Arts Engine work-in-progress (A)SEXUAL. In her role in the production department, she was Associate Producer for Outreach and Distribution on Arts Engine’s latEST RELEASES, ARCTIC SON AND ELECTION DAY. JOLENE’S PERSONAL FILM Bismillah was a finalist for the International Documentary Association’s David Wolper Award, won first place in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ College Television Awards (Student Emmys) and was the recipient of a CINE Golden Eagle Award. Her short FILM LITTLE FOUNTAINS screened at MoMA as part of her work with the UnionDocs Collaborative.

Editor Michelle Chang was the Co-Editor on the documentary film CAMP VICTORY, AFGHANISTAN, and an Associate Editor on PUSHING THE ELEPHANT. She has assisted on a variety of other feature documentary films including WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?, THE NINE LIVES OF MARION BARRY (HBO), and IF GOD IS WILLING AND DA CREEK DON’T RISE (HBO). She also attended the Sundance Documentary Edit and Story Labs in 2008 as an assistant and in 2009 as a fellow. Prior to becoming an editor, she worked as an Associate Producer for the television newsmagazines 20/20 and Primetime.

Our moderator will be Ingrid Kopp. She is the director of U.S. Shooting People, an international networking organization for independent filmmakers. She began her career in the Documentaries department at Channel 4 Television in the U.K. While there, she worked across original commissions and documentary acquisitions and ran a series of workshops for emerging filmmakers. Kopp moved to New York in 2004 to work as an associate producer for a number of independent production companies before taking her current post at Shooting People. She writes about film, social media and technology for various publications and teaches Digital Bootcamp workshops for filmmakers. She also works as a documentary programming consultant for film festivals, broadcasters and foundations.

The Fifth Annual Notre Dame Undergraduate Film & Television Conference at the University of Notre Dame

April 1-2, 2011

The Notre Dame Undergraduate Film & Television Conference offers undergraduate students the opportunity to present papers representing their best work in film and media studies. Students will deliver papers on any aspect of film and media history, criticism, or theory. Papers will be given in twenty-minute slots (up to a 10-page doubled spaced paper presented at normal talking speed with a few visual aids).

Students who wish to participate in the conference must submit a completed paper proposal form. The submission form can be found

A panel comprised of Notre Dame faculty from the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre will select the best 30 papers from among the proposals received.

All selected conference participants must agree to attend both days of the conference.

Note: This is not an undergraduate film festival but an academic conference. Do not send student films. Student films may, of course, form part of a paper presentation but will not be screened outside the twenty-minute time allocation.

Heist tells the hidden story of the systemic, multifaceted attack that, starting in the 1970s, transformed America’s well-regulated economy into a battlefield littered with foreclosed homes, runaway jobs, and broken dreams. The film draws on the best thinkers and grassroots activists to show how with ingenuity, fairness, and commitment, America can recover prosperity for all. Heist will be released in 2011.

MY PERESTROIKA follows five ordinary Russians living in extraordinary times – from their
sheltered Soviet childhood, to the collapse of the Soviet Union during their teenage years, to the constantly shifting political landscape of post-Soviet Russia. Together, these childhood classmates paint a complex picture of the dreams and disillusionment of those raised behind the Iron Curtain.

The film had its World Premiere at The Sundance Film Festival in January 2010. The film has won various awards including Center for Documentary Studies Filmmaker Award at Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and a Special Jury Award at AFI Discovery Silverdocs Film Festival. In August 2010, the film participated in IDA DocuWeeks’ Theatrical Showcase at the IFC Center in NY and the ArcLight in LA. It continues to play the festival circuit, including Hot Docs and Sheffield and will have its broadcast premiere on PBS’s award-winning POV series in 2011, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the coup that led to the collapse of the USSR.

Etsy stories average about 3 – 5 minutes in length and for the most part, bring the sellers on the site — and their objects — to life. Currently, we feature three main video series: Handmade Portraits, which profile those Etsy sellers; There's No Place Like Here, which feature the interiors of collection-filled homes; and Process, where the methods tell the story. DocuClub in January!

Our January DocuClub will take place on THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 7 p.m., at 92YTribeca, located at 200 Hudson (at Canal). (We had previously announced a January 12 date, but please make note of this change.)

This month, we are excited to workshop two short documentary films: AN IMAGINARY THING by Reva Goldberg and SONNY by Christina Antonakos-Wallace.

Reva Goldberg's AN IMAGINARY THING is an intimate portrait of passionate children’s theater director Bill Bartlett and his unique gift for unlocking the creativity of troubled kids. An independent educator outside the New York City school system, Bill believes meaningful experiences in the performing arts are critical for children in crisis – encouraging their natural impulses towards creativity, community and self-expression when they might otherwise be snuffed out forever. The short follows Bill over the course of one summer when he is invited to put on an original play, by and for kids, in a prestigious theater festival. He is determined to include some children he has worked with in homeless shelters in his cast, but this goal forces him to face profound personal and professional challenges.

Director/Producer Reva Goldberg is, by day, the Communications and Fellowships Manager at Cinereach, a New York City not-for-profit film foundation and production company that champions vital stories, artfully told. There she handles all public communications, as well as serving on the grants selection committee, and heading up a fellowship program that provides a grant and four months of advising to emerging filmmakers producing socially conscious short films. Before joining Cinereach, she was a producer at Pureland Pictures where she produced the documentary ALL OF US, which aired on Showtime in 2008 in connection with World AIDS Day. Goldberg also co-produced Pureland’s TOE TO TOE, a narrative feature that premiered at Sundance 2009. In 2004, she was Associate Producer of an Emmy-nominated History Channel documentary on the 9/11 Commission (produced by CBS). She has worked with TLC, UPN, Discovery, The Travel Channel, Washington Square Films/Arts, Cronkite Productions and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. She is a graduate of the SI Newhouse School at Syracuse University. AN IMAGINARY THING is Reva’s first independent documentary as both Producer and Director.

Co-Producer Kacie Barton is the in-house coordinator and live action specialist at Imaginary Forces, a design/commercial production house based in New York and Los Angeles. Prior to this, she has worn many hats, from Production Manager to Second Second Assistant Director on the films TOE TO TOE, A KISS FOR JED WOOD, and TODAY'S SPECIAL, among others. She has directed and produced music videos and other promotional pieces for bands and artists and her work has been featured on She was a production and office manager at Pureland Pictures, where she managed grantwriting and distribution for the company’s social-issue documentaries, including ALL OF US. She is a graduate of the SI Newhouse School at Syracuse University.

In SONNY (working title) by Christina Antonakos-Wallace, we meet Sonny Singh, a Brooklyn-based activist and full-time musician who hopes to be "the first dude in a turban” on MTV. His dream changes, however, when his poised-for-success rock band insists on recording lyrics insulting religious people. Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sonny and his brother were the only Sikh boys, and he has faced discrimination his whole life. Because his Sikh faith is intimately tied to his musical path and work for social justice, Sonny feels he has no choice but to quit the band. In figuring out his next move, he decides to work as an organizer for the Sikh Coalition. Heading an anti-bullying campaign in New York City schools, he tries to help combat the bigotry he experienced as a young person. Still, working in his own community presents new challenges, and Sonny will have to come to terms with whether or not he can pursue a music career that won’t betray his ideals.

Director/Producer Christina Antonakos-Wallace is a documentary filmmaker and activist based in Brooklyn, NY. In 2006, she graduated at the top of her class at the New School and Parsons School of Design with a B.F.A. in Fine Arts and Video, and a B.A. in Sociology. Her honors include MTV’s "Fight for Your Rights" scholarship and a Fellowship from Humanity in Action. Her varied experiences include assisting filmmaker Barbara Hammer, and interning with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in Berlin. Currently, she produces videos for NGOs, and teaches media literacy and video production to high school students with the organization Global Action Project. SONNY is a short film featuring one of the protagonists of her feature documentary, WITH WINGS AND ROOTS, currently in production.

Demonstrating enormous talent and stamina, Cheree Dillon is the Editor for both of our featured shorts. Dillon’s most recent feature documentary is Nicole Opper’s OFF AND RUNNING, a co-production of ITVS and The National Black Programming Consortium. The film premiered at Tribeca in 2009 and went on to screen at Silverdocs (WGA Screenplay Award), Outfest (Jury Prize for Outstanding Documentary), and was broadcast on PBS’s P.O.V. in 2010. Dillon began her career as a commercial editor in Chicago and her first foray into short films was editing LESSONS FOR GIRLS, which premiered on The Education Channel and also played at Belgium’s International Film Festival. Since moving to New York, she has edited social issue documentaries for a variety of non-profits including V.O.W. (Voices of Women of Color with HIV/AIDS), Passionists of Harlem, New York Women’s HIV Collaborative, and The American Jewish World Service, along with teaching youth media classes around the city. She was Editor/Producer of SONG OF HANNAH, distributed by The National Center for Jewish Film and Avoda Arts. She also edited the award-winning short comedy HIS SONG IS COSMO, which ran in festivals around the world and won three audience awards for Best Short. Her other broadcast experience includes editing for NBC’s The Today Show, The Science Channel’s Exploring Time, PBS’s History Detectives, and other works for the Discovery Channel, HBO, HGTV, and NYC-TV.

Our moderator will be Angela Tucker. A Brooklyn based filmmaker and writer, Tucker was the Director of Production at Big Mouth Films, a social issue documentary production company that is a project of Arts Engine, Inc. There, she produced PUSHING THE ELEPHANT (IDFA, Independent Lens), the Emmy-nominated documentary, DEADLINE (NBC), ELECTION DAY (PBS' POV) and BEYOND THE STEPS: ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER (Great Performances). She directed two pieces for The National Black Programming Consortium and ITVS' Initiative, The Masculinity Project, entitled INVISIBLE MEN and a fiction short film, THE BIRTHDAY GIRL. She directs and produces educational videos for non-profit organizations such as Johns Hopkins Medical Center’s Project Restore and GLSEN, in addition to producing spots for Nickelodeon. She is currently finishing her feature-length directorial debut, (A)SEXUAL, which was featured in last month's DocuClub.
