I am a freelance Associate Producer/Researcher in NYC - with other

A decade after dotcom fever took over Wall Street, we revisit three
Internet entrepreneurs who became unexpected players in big business
in the 1990s How did these kid millionaires deal with their success
and the subsequent burst of the Net Economy bubble?

My friend, Doug Hawes Davis's film festival, has really taken off. In
its third year, it has received over 800 entries. It is held in the
gorgeous Wilma theatre in downtown Missoula Montana. Missoula is a
vivbrant university town with an active film going populace. Last
year they did a retrospective on the Maysles brothers. Albert wasn't
able to attend because of the Cristo deal in Central Park. Doug is a
prolific documentary film maker. He is now doing a project on the
bison killing controversy outside Yellowstone park.

Women in Film and Video's ongoing "Wednesday One" professional
development series returns on Wednesday, March 1 with a program
focused on how to work with the amazing wealth of talent in the DC
area. This panel will help producers and directors better understand
how to get the right actor for a project, whether it's a fiction

narration. What can you tell from a head-shot or demo reel? What's
involved with working with a casting agency? How do you run an

A 90min documentary to be distributed worldwide about
32 Independent Filmmakers following
32 Worldwide Fans supporting each of the 32 World Cup Teams,
But as with any knockout competition- there can only be one Winner!
We are searching the planet for 32 talented student or independent
filmmakers to compete for a place in what is possibly the biggest
global independent collaborative film project ever about soccer fans
and produce sections for a 90 min documentary feature film.
The score is this: each of the 32 filmmakers or production teams
need to follow one fan of one of the 32 qualifying nations for the
duration their teams last in the world cup. Your subject fan (could
even be yourself) should be passionate about football and be
following the World Cup in an extraordinary or special way. As soon
as the fan's team gets knocked out of the cup, he/r and the following
filmmaker drop out of the documentary. A final statement from
filmmaker and fan can be recorded but the producers wont accept any

As many of you know, the cost for a single independent producer to
rent a theater in LA or NY for 7 days (in order to be eligible for
Academy consideration) can run up to $15,000. We want to release
our film on DVD as soon as possible, yet still be eligible for Academy
consideration. Because of that, we have decided to organize a Los
Angeles screening ourselves and invite other filmmakers to share the

film will be screened once a day for 7 consecutive days (thus meeting
the requirement for Academy consideration). The cost will be split by
all the filmmakers who participate. This will happen on April 28th
through May 5th. So if your documentary, short or feature is ready,

with Rick Pollard at Laemmle's to make this event happen.
The 7 day screening in LA or NY is just one of a long list of
requirements the Academy has. More information can be found here:
In order to screen at Laemmle's during the run we have plannede (April
28-May 5), certain requirements must be met.
Here are the requirements:
1) Your film can be either Feature or Short Documentary.
2) It needs to be 24-or 48-frame progressive scan digital format ONLY
(minimum native resolution 1280 by 1024 pixels). If you do not have
it on this type of format and you need to transfer it, we know some
great places to get it done.
4) The cost is estimated around $700-$800 per 15 minutes. So if your
doc is 60 minutes you are looking at about $2800-$3200, which is much
cheaper than $15,000, if you were to do it by yourself.
5) We are accepting films from all over the world.
6) If you are not in LA and would like to participate, you can contact
Tim Jack at 818 728-0720. He will be in charge of handling out-of-town
films. (there is an extra fee for this).
This could be a great way to meet some of the requirements without the

Lab that will take place in Los Angeles during October and November
2006. The deadline for submissions is August 28, 2006 (postmarked).
Sponsored by Technicolor, Film Independent's Producers Lab is an
intensive seven-week program designed to help filmmakers working in
both fiction and documentary develop skills as creative independent
producers. Lab fellows develop a strategy and formal action plan for

The Program in Film and Media Studies in the Department of Art &
Art History at Stanford University is seeking candidates for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an emphasis in the
field of Documentary Film and Video Production. The appointment is
expected to begin September 1, 2007.
The successful candidate will teach at the graduate level in the
M.F.A. Program in Documentary Film and Video and at the
undergraduate level in the Film and Media Studies program.

NOTES ON MARIE MENKEN tells the story of this legendary artist
(19091970), a Lithuanian immigrant who became one of New York's
outstanding underground experimental filmmakers of the 1940's through
the 1960's, inspiring artists such as Stan Brakhage, Andy Warhol,
Jonas Mekas, Kenneth Anger and Gerard Malanga. The large (a hefty 6'
2"), loud and tempestuous Menkenreportedly the inspiration for the
character of "Martha" in Edward Albee's play Who's Afraid of Virginia
Woolfalso became a Warhol Superstar, making memorable appearances in
The Life of Juanita Castro and The Chelsea Girls.
Originally an abstract painter and collage artist, Menken produced
nearly two dozen experimental shorts, using a hand-held Bolex to
create rhythmic patterns of light, color, form and texture, visual
poems that extracted beauty from the world around her. NOTES ON MARIE
MENKEN features lengthy excerpts from many of her films as well as
never-before-seen footage by the filmmaker salvaged from basements and

KASHMIR Campaign to amplify our reach online and to grow our e-
subscriber list ?
o Coordinate and e-produce house parties around the world.
o Research and implement web-based PR and marketing activities
including blogs, tagging, social networking, viral marketing, search
engine marketing, text messaging and other forms of electronic
o Monitoring blogs and Web sites (South Asian, Conflict Resolution,
film, faith, human rights/social change etc.) to identify
opportunities for PROJECT KASHMIR campaign.?
o Update and maintain PROJECT KASHMIR presence on social networking
sites like MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc.?
o Develop new Web and organizational partnerships to publicize PROJECT
KASHMIR campaign - link exchanges with other sites, mailing lists,
website discussion areas, online newsletters, web press, etc.?
o Oversee Web site administration including attracting more user-
contributed content, updating sections of the Web site and overseeing
the upload of videos ?
o Create and send email newsletter ?
o Manage email database ?
o Set up affiliate marketing relationships and liaison with DVD
distributor and fulfillment house
o Evaluate and report on the popularity and effectiveness of the
campaign and Web site traffic?
o Additional duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:?
o Enthusiasm and passion for PROJECT KASHMIR, the issues at its core,
and spreading the message around the world.?
o Interest in online engagement, public interest advocacy or
campaigns, film, as well as experience in an Internet or web-based
role, including online organizing, Web site development, implementing
online campaigns, online PR, blogger outreach.
o Familiarity with Kashmiri, Indian, Pakistani, Hindu, Muslim
communities is a bonus.
o Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel),
web publishing tools, as well as Internet research skills?
o Ability to juggle multiple tasks under deadlines
o Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in
written format, with staff, media and external partners

customers the ability to record personal history video interviews with
individuals and small groups anywhere in America. You can think of

SAGAS was founded by David Hoffman, a veteran documentary Filmmaker
with over 40 years of experience ( www.thehoffmancollection.com). He
has made over 200 films and has won about every national and
international award including Emmy's and the Cannes Critics prize.
Shortly, we will begin promoting SAGAS nationally. SAGAS will build a
national brand, supported by a professional marketing campaign. This
is an independent contractor relationship. We consider our
videographers our partners.
When SAGAS receives an order, we will email the job description to
each registered Videographer that is willing to work in the area code
that the interview will take place. The first response accepting the
job will get the job. SAGAS will be careful not to over saturate the
videographer pool in any given location. This will ensure that
registered interviewers get their fair share of the work. So register
Shooting a Sagas video interview is simple. It is a one hour
interview; the entire call should not take more than 3 hours. No
editing is involved. When the Videographer accepts the job, they
receive the subject's contact information, and a one-page paper from
the customer that describes questions or topics that the customer
would like raised. The shoot style consists of an informal interview.
The videographer will sit in front of (and to the side of) their Mini
DV camera which is mounted on a stationary tripod. No lights are
required. The finished unedited miniDv tape will be sent directly to
Sagas who will pay within three days of receipt and review. Sagas
will pay $250 for each interview with an additional premium applied in
certain areas. Sagas has created a variety of training and self-help
tools, including demo interviews conducted by Hoffman. These should
help you to become a more skilled interviewer.
In two months, Sagas will go live and begin offering its services to
