Bio

Jessica Van Garsse is an independent creative / supervising producer of documentary films, television, news, and branded content. Her work has appeared on HBO, the Independent Film Channel, PBS, National Geographic, History, NBC, CBS, ABC, and A&E, among others, and taken her everywhere from a terrorism cell in the Middle East to death row in a maximum-security prison, from the Amazon jungle to the White House, from a missile silo to the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. Notable work includes the Oscar-nominated documentary Killing in the Name, about terrorism in the Middle East and Southeast Asia which, prior to its broadcast on HBO, played theatrically in over 150 theaters nationwide, at festivals including FullFrame, and worldwide as the centerpiece of an anti-terrorism campaign; a documentary series for ABC which won two CINE Awards and a Christopher Award (New York Med, 2011); and a series for National Geographic which became the highest-rated show in the network’s history (Doomsday Preppers, 2012). Earlier in her career, Jessica worked at CBS news, producing long-form specials and magazine pieces, as well as daily breaking news. She graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with a major in Psychology, and currently splits time between New York and Los Angeles.
