I’ve been interested in documentaries and documentary filmmaking for a long time. I particularly like getting to know people and places, and stories that give insight into different facets of being human. Right now I am working on producing a film about a friend of mine, Elsa who is both unique as a vibrant storyteller of her own life, and typical in that she lives a situation common to many women who come from poor families, with little education, in social conditions that exclude them from basic rights and services. The documentary takes place in Paraguay, where Elsa is from and where I lived for 5 years working with a wonderful group of feminists and activists dedicated to promoting women’s rights. This is the link to our first promotional video used for an Indiegogo campaign to get funds to film some interviews with Elsa, which I did in September 2015. Now I am looking for ways to continue with the project which includes getting more funds, finding a crew, and engaging in conversations with people who are interested in discussing it. I am originally from Queens, NY, now live in Coral Springs, FL, and travel regularly to Paraguay and Buenos Aires. I am bilingual English/Spanish, write in both languages, have taught college Spanish, worked for not-for-profits and write projects and grant applications. I also have started a blog based on my experience of Paraguay called Sitting on the Balcony.
